FAI National Cup Round 2

Lifford afc travelled down to Shannon to play Shannon Hibs in this round 2 encounter yesterday. Hibs edged the first half by creating more chances but failed to take them, Once the second half started the Lifford boys started to dominated the play and the physcial battle and had the better of the match. 0:0 it finished after 90 minutes. Extra time beckoned with Lifford on top , but were unable to take the lead with some good chances.

So the penalty shoot out started with Frank Lynch opening the scoring, Hibs first penalty was saved brilliantly by Luke Kennedy in goal for Lifford, Up stepped George Quinn to put Lifford 2 up, Hibs scored, then Luke Kennedy scored his penalty, With the pressure mounting Hibs took their penalty, only for it to be saved, but the power of the shot took it over the line, Up next Sam Obadeyi who cooly slotted his penalty in, Hibs scored again, so 4;4 with Lifford to take their last penalty. up stepped Cal Kirby to send his penalty high into the top corner, the boys celebrated and we are through to the next round. Well done to the boys they showed great desire to get the win.
